Fastweb Mobile NP Routing
Customer need
During 2003 the Italian Communication Ministry put a demand on all fixed telecom operators that they had to make Direct Routing by All Call Query (ACQ) of all Mobile Terminating Calls from May 2004. Fastweb needed to find a solution and contacted Inabler at the end of 2003.
Solution
Inabler’s Number Portability Routing application is IN based and works according to the ACQ principle. All calls are routed directly to the correct operator even though the number is ported. Through a web interface Fastweb can see porting status of numbers.
Inabler has adapted the service to the Central Reference Database (CRDB) in Italy. In this way Inabler’s Db has access to all ported numbers in Italy and the Db is updated daily. Inabler also adapted the IN-platform towards Fastweb’s switch. For each call to a mobile number in Fastweb’s network, the switch makes a query to the IN-platform that checks in the Db if the number is ported or not and routes the call in the correct way.
Fastweb gets access to Inabler’s IN-platform through Inabler’s Point of presence in Milan. The signalling is transferred through redundant E1’s between Milan and Gothenburg.
Benefits for the Customer
Thanks to Inabler’s NP service Fastweb is saving a lot of money for unnecessary transit calls and does not have to pay the incumbent operator to perform IN requests.
